The Thinker
By Jeff Johnson
Inspired by sculpture by Auguste Rodin (1840 - 1917)

Look in the mirror,
And who do I see?
Somebody different than me.

Look at the face,
It looks just like me.
But there's someone behind it I've not seen ...

I don't know who you are,
I don't know what you're doing,
I don't know what you're saying.

I don't know who you are,
I don't know why you're acting,
I don't know who you're being.

It's taken some time,
'cause I've been inclined,
To let anything come in my mind.

I'm starting to see,
That this isn't me,
I've acted the wrong part far too long ...

I don't know who you are,
I don't know what you're doing,
I don't know what you're saying.

I don't know who you are,
I don't know why you're acting,
I don't know who you're being.

All my life, I've sat here on my chair of stone,
Storing up the knowledge I've acquired.
I'm sure you've seen the statue in my honor,
Gathering the waste from all the birds.
